Don't know if anyone is on Xanga anymore----but for those who are---I just found a blog called The Rebelution. http://www.therebelution.com/
Check it out. It was put together by two teenage home-schoolers. They have also written a book called Do Hard Things. Sounds like a real call to action for Christ!
(Disclaimer: I haven't checked it out thoroughly...haven't done an FBI background check...don't know their doctrine....)  I only know that it sounds like they have what a lot of us need in this culture!

Interesting site here: http://freerice.com/faq.html
Yes---I know it is through the U.N. I won't even go into how I feel about the organization.
BUT--this is fun to do and is helping to donate rice for the hungry---even if it is through the U.N.
You can see how well you do in your vocabulary as they automatically set the words to your level.
Laura and I have reached level 47 (through some pretty crazy guess-work!).
Anyway, try it out. Learn lots of ostentatious words that no one will understand...and donate lots of rice!

Seen in an ad for data entry work:
"There are litterly tens of thousands of companies to choose from."
....Must be kitty litter companies!

I've been looking for Bible curriculum for the home-school year. (Yes! All you organized home-school moms---I am extremely late, and if I were ordering books, they wouldn't be here till November!) Anyway, I came across a wonderful site that has scriptures (memory verses) put to music, and you can print off the sheet music, listen to the music, or download to an mp3 player for free. The only thing I wish were different is that I would like them to be in KJV, as most of what I have learned is from KJV. Here is the link, if anyone is interested: http://www.scripturerelease.com/. If you go to the "bios" in the menu and then click on the link in the first paragraph, you will find LOTS more songs to print.
So, that should help with the memory work. Now to find some Bible Studies or Character Studies.

On a different note: The Perils of Gardening at Night!  ---The other night I went to my sister's house to get the radio out of her garden. Yes, my dears, the radio! We had it out there to TRY to keep the coons out of our corn. (I have a section of her garden out in corn and beans.) The corn is over and done, so I thought I would TRY to keep the groundhogs out of my garden here at home. It was after midnight, and as I came around the gazebo in the pitch dark, a huge spider web wrapped itself around my face and head! I was frantically clawing it off when my dear niece, Lydia came out to see what was going on. I asked her if there was a spider on me, and she replied that there was a lovely one on the back of my dress---and that NO, she was NOT going to get it off of me! When it was finally on the ground where it belonged, I saw that it was one of those "monster" garden spiders! Shiver!!!
***No, the radio didn't work for long to keep the coons out. I think it did until they got used to it---or desperate for corn. We think they took to sitting around the radio, munching on corn and listening to their favorite preacher expounding on the evils of stealing!  ***Not sure yet if it is working to keep the groundhog out.

Wish I had a picture of this: I grew a purple variety of cauliflower this year, and it really is beautiful--until you cook it! Then it turns a sort of aquamarine. (It reminds me of that blue ketchup that they were trying to sell for a while!)
It doesn't look terribly appetizing, but it does have a wonderful flavor. Anyway----I was checking some in the garden, and a big fat worm fell off the plant. Guess what color he was? A beautiful shade of aquamarine!!!

YES! I am actually updating. If the girls will ever show me how, I might even add some pictures.!
We just had a fantastic weekend reunion at my grandparents' farm. As far as we could determine, there were
158 people there! All of the living aunts and uncles were there, and 24 of the 25 cousins (Paul being home with the Lord). Many of the cousins' children were there, and quite a few of THEIR children.
Poor Jewell! She had just updated and printed beautiful copies of the family tree, only to have it immediately "outdated" by the birth of two of my cousins' grandbabies on the same day (Saturday)!
We raised the money for the reunion by holding an auction of donated items: handmade crafts and food, family heirlooms, etc., and that was loads of fun, with some pretty competitive bidding!
I think the highlight of the reunions is always the hymn-sing in the evening, and the Sunday morning worship.
This time, my cousin's son, Joel, who is serving with his family in Guatemala, preached the sermon and he had an excellent message. ---Yes, they came all the way from Guatemala, and my niece came up from Mexico!
The only problems were the oppressive heat and humidity. A storm rolled in right during the Sunday morning service, but we were well protected from the downpour by a large tent, and the rain stopped just as we left the tent to serve lunch.
We celebrated Mamma's 80th birthday with a cake during lunch.
                    (Mark shares Mamma's birthday.)
So -----"Happy Birthday" to my dear husband!

This evening, I told Josiah that he could burn our brushpile at home since it had rained and wouldn't be dangerous anymore. So he put a match to it, and it took off with a roar! It suddenly dawned on me that it HADN'T rained here, even though it had poured on Grandpa's farm, just three miles away! The fire started
spreading in the grass, so we grabbed the hose and buckets and wet down the grass all around the fire.
DUMB! You would think I would have noticed that it was still dry here!!!

On a different note--- some funnies to share:
I ran across this one tonight:
     Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit;
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad

---and that reminded me of what Esther had to say about Laura!
"She's smart enough to take 23 credit hours.....and dumb enough to do it"
                                                    So true!
